Ghamro Will Fail To Distribute Royalties Henceforth Due To Withheld License – Rex Omar

The Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) has been declared functionless to distribute royalties by Rex Omar following the organization’s failure to renew their license.

Chairman of GHAMRO, Rex Omar revealed certain unresolved issues that GHAMRO is having with stakeholders that has contributed to their failure to renew their license.

The Attorney General has withheld the organization’s license due to some legal issues and this was made known by Rex Omar in a press conference yesterday.

Due to this unfavorable situation, the chairman hinted that GHAMRO may not be able to distribute royalties henceforth until the issues are resolved but will still undertake the collection of royalties as they embark on the resolution process. Rex Omar said the collection and distribution operate on separate grounds and this will not undermine their work.

The organization has faced several accusations by musicians of receiving lesser royalties as they deserved.

Rex Omar referred to Highlife songstress Akosua Agyapong’s campaign on fighting for what they deserved. Akosua Agyapong lamented on GHAMRO sending only 200 cedis to the late Akwaboah Snr. for medical care. This long with many other complaints about the work of GHAMRO has put them under scrutiny.
