The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts will in December 2020, commission a Creative Industry Insurance Scheme (CIIS) for the Creative Industry.

This is in recognition of the fact that although the Creative Arts sector contributes enormously to the Ghanaian economy, players in the industry seem not to be well catered for as many Ghanaian artistes are most of the time left to make public appeals for financial and material support in their dire circumstances and old age.

The Tourism Ministry explained that its new Insurance Scheme will put an end to the situation.

Sector Minister, Barbara Oteng Gyasi at a news conference on Wednesday, 25 November 2020 in Accra stated that, the scheme shall cover members of the Creative Industry who are registered with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, or any of its implementing Agencies, and are in good standing.

The first-year premium will be funded by the government and subsequently self-payment by members from 2022.

The Minister added that: “beneficiaries of the scheme shall be members of the Creative Industry who are registered with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, or any of its implementing agencies, and are in good standing.
